Calling all travelers!!!

Recently, Nick and I have been tossing around ideas about where to go on our honeymoon. Our top places are Ireland and Greece, but we've decided they're going to have to wait a few years. (We're actually talking about maybe doing Ireland in 2010 after he runs the London marathon!) So we've shifted our thinking to places that are a little closer to home (translated: North America and, hopefully, more affordable). Right now, we're leaning towards an Alaskan cruise. What I'm wondering is... Have any of you been on a cruise through Alaska? (I know Jeff & Sarah have been there, but can't remember if it was on a cruise or not??) Can anyone who's been there give us any suggestions? Thoughts? Insight? Which ports of call should we make sure the cruise includes? Which could we pass on? What cruise lines are better than others? Should we do a 7 day cruise? Longer? Any advice/help would be appreciated! Thanks guys!!

I have only had one really short cruise experience, not in Alaska. But...I can only say it may not be the top choice for a "honeymoon experience" (ie LOTS of people around and lots of activity). However, if you and Nick are the "go and do" type, it might be perfect. Brian and I are definitely more the lounge around on the beach type of vacationer.

We went on an Alaskan cruise and really enjoyed it. I'm not in a hurry for another cruise though since I got seasick for the first couple days. :( Every cruise there seems to include stops at pretty much the same places. My favorite stop was Juneau...We went whale watching and zip lining. One place I would avoid is Icy Strait Point, which was a waste of time. Nothing to do or see there. We did a land tour before the cruise and really enjoyed that. One favorite stop was Talkeetna, but we had good weather in our favor, with views of Mt. McKinley. The one negative is that our Alaskan cruise ended up costing more than our previous trip to Hawaii, and hotels/accommodations were not as luxurious as you would expect for the cost. Everything is more expensive there because their tourism season is so short. So it all depends on what you are going for. I really enjoyed our Alaskan experience, but it's a different type of vacation than you might expect for the money.
